I bought this the day after I found out I was pregnant. It was on clearance for $3 at Old Navy and I just couldn't resist. My mom said, "Well, what if it's a girl?" And I said, "Then I guess you'll be crocheting a matching headband so people aren't mistaken." It was just too cute to pass up.
Our ultrasound appointment was really amazing. You go through these stages in life, getting your first car, your big prom night, graduating high school, getting married to the man you love, buying your first home, and with each new big event you wonder how things could get any better than they are in that moment. But honestly can it get much better than seeing your tiny little baby on the screen in that hospital room? I mean, you have a little life growing inside you. And so many new things are starting to bud and you're so happy and it makes you love your husband that much more. That's what it's like. It's perfect.
Now, before I get into the details let me first say that growing up I always wanted a boy first. Something about having that older brother as the protector thing just always did it for me. I guess since I just had two older sisters and a younger brother. But the farther along in the pregnancy I got the more nervous I got for a boy. I mean, a boy? Honestly, what would I do with a boy? I wouldn't even wear jeans for the first 5 years of my life. Dresses or stretch pants only. I was about as girly as they came. But obviously either way Darin and I were going to be happy with whatever the Lord decided to bless us with.
So back to the appointment. First, our little babe was flexing it's arm, so I said it's a boy. Then it was crossing it's legs so Darin said no...it's a girl. Then it had it's hand down by it's crotch so I said it's definitely a boy. The nurse was trying to get to the classic shot so she could see what it was but was having a hard time. So I had to get up and go to the bathroom and smack the kid around a bit hoping that it would reveal itself.....I'm kidding, I didn't abuse it, just gave it a few good pokes. I mean, I was insanely nervous that we were going to leave the hospital without knowing what it was, and we didn't want that to happen.
After a few more minutes of searching the nurse pulled up the classic between the legs shot and I yelled, "THAT'S A WIENER!!"And the nurse said, "Nooo.....that's not a wiener." Oh, well that's embarrassing. We all had some laughs and we left happy knowing that we had a healthy perfect baby inside.
So, is my baby going to be wearing this come December?
You betcha!
Or maybe even this, be a little more appropriate?
Uh-huh.
So we're happy to announce we'll be having a little gal enter our home somewhere around December 5th.
